A Christmas Hymn

Merry Christmas!

I know you’re probably busy celebrating today with your loved ones.  But I just wanted to pop in today and simply share the lyrics to this simple hymn with you all.  This is one of my favorite Christmas hymns and I simply love how it reminds us of the true reason for Christmas – the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  And this hymn is not only for Christmas but in reality, for every day.
So below are the lyrics to this short and beautiful hymn.  Please read over them slowly, and maybe read them a few times.  If you know this Hymn, sing it in your head as you dwell on the meaning of the lyrics.  Let the truth of the words seep into your soul and then spend some time thanking and praising God for sending us a Saviour.

Come, Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.
Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
